Title: 1967 Muncie M21 Transmission Whine
Date: 2/12/2000
Question: I have a '67 Vette, 427/390 with the above 4-speed. It has recently developed a whine in all gears. I've had the car since '81 and have put less than a 1000 miles in that time. It is possible it has the original gear fluid (at correct level) and I'm wondering if changing it out would help. If not, I wood like to rebuild it but can't find a manual other than my GM shop manual which doesn't seem detailed enough. Do u know where I could obtain a good manual. Also, if it is the main front bearing, is it possible to replace it without dismantling the entire transmission. As a side note, I am wondering why it wood develop this whine after such limited mileage-would my very limited use of the car have anything to do with this?
- Jud Chapin
Answer: We don't think changing the fluid will help. It may be a worn front bearing causing the noise. Take this one to a good transmission shop and have them check it out.

Title: 1966 Timing And Fuel
Date: 12/14/1999
Question: I just purchased a 1966 Vette with the 300 H.P. 327 cu.in. motor. The motor is still in stock form with 66,000 miles. What should I set the timing at and what gas and additive should I use?
- Bill
Answer: The timing should be set between 8 - 10 degrees. We suggest premium Amoco fuel with a lead additive.

Title: 1966 Trim Tags
Date: 10/14/1999
Question: Hi I am looking at a 1966 corvette for sale, the only thing holding me back on the car is that it is missing its trim tag (body identification plate) do you know if reproduction trim tags are sold somewhere, & where could I get one made?
- M Walden
Answer: The trim tag is different from the ID tag. The trim tag is available through a vendor in Hemmings motor news. Check the title of the car for the history of the car. Be careful, this creates a risky purchase.

Title: 1965 Lack Of Engine Power
Date: 2/12/2000
Question: My 327-350 hp motor just doesn't give that pull when I punch in the 4-barrel. It's a new Holley #2818. I'm wondering if changing to a lighter vacuum secondary spring will give it some zip sooner.
- Mark
Answer: We don't think a spring will fix this problem. This problem can be a number of different things. Make sure the timing is correct. There may not be enough vacuum, ignition, or compression. Take it to a professional that understands how to diagnose this type of engine.

Title: 1964 Rear End Sitting Low
Date: 2/3/2000
Question: I own a 1964 and my problem is just the rear quarter sits approximately 1 1/2 inch lower than the rest of the car ! Can you please list as many reasons as possible to fix my saggy rear? I noticed the #4 mount has 4 shims the #3 has none, does this sound like it is the reason?
- Jay
Answer: No, it's not the shims. It might be the springs or the body mounts. Take this one to a professional and have them check it on a hoist.

Title: 1964 Poor Acceleration
Date: 10/30/1999
Question: I have a 64 corvette 327. I'm experiencing problems with acceleration. Driving on the freeway I recently blew the donut gaskets in the manifold. The car was back firing and sounded like a tank. These gaskets were probably the originals. I recently changed these gaskets it reduced the noise but it still sounds a rough. Driving it you can feel that it has lost its acceleration. I checked the oil for any water to see if maybe I also blew the head gasket, but no water was in the oil. Do you have any suggestions?
- Allan
Answer: Check the EGR valve, the exhaust could be clogged, engine timing, or the wrong gasket was used on the heat riser.

Title: 1964 Lights
Date: 10/12/1999
Question: I own a 1964 Corvette convertible. Up until today all lights and turn signals were working except for the right brake light. In trying to find the problem, I have made things worse. The rear lights are exactly the same but now the blinkers in the front don't work. The running lights in the front only come on when you put just the parking lights on. Turn the head light on and they go off. I am in dire need of a wiring diagram. And also if you could recommend a repair manual to purchase that would be great. Everyone said to check the grounds and that was okay. I was actually getting the same voltage across both rear tail light and brake light sockets. The bulbs were making contact, but for some reason the rt. rear brake light would not work. Need help. If you have any ideas or can get the info. I requested that would be great.
- Donald
Answer: The running lights are working correctly. They are supposed to go off when the head lights are turned on. That's they way it was done in '64. Locate the GM Shop Manual for the wiring diagram.

Title: 1963 Air Conditioning Convertion/Installation
Date: 10/20/1999
Question: I have a 63 swc that i am considering installing ac on,first question is what do i do about the battery access pannel on the drivers side i do not have the access pannel? Second question is on the ac unit,i have heard of the Vintage unit and also the Old Air unit,do you know which of these unit or another unit most people use on their mid years?
- Tom
Answer: 1963 Vettes with a/c. had the battery in the drivers side, with the access panel. The 63's without a/c. had the battery on the passengers side. You will have to create an access panel on the drivers side and move the battery from the passengers side. This is a difficult process and we do not recommend it. Look for original or factory a/c. parts. They will be tough to find but well worth it if you decide to put a/c in your 1963.

Title: 1962 Exhaust Manifold and Hose Assembly Unit
Date: 1/4/2000
Question: I have a 1962 Corvette which is missing the hose assembly unit (#3813127 and #3817306) which goes from the rear of the carburetor to under the exhaust manifold. I have ordered the parts, but I don't know where or how it fits on the manifold. The manifold I have on the car doesn't have a hole or fitting for the pipe assembly.
- Gfnym
Answer: You may have the wrong exhaust manifold on the car. It could be a left side manifold or a later model manifold. We suggest finding the correct manifold with the heat tube hole on the bottom.

Title: 1962 T-10 Transmission
Date: 1/2/2000
Question: I'm in the process of doing over a 62 as a driver. I acquired the car without engine or transmission. I have the chance to pick up a T-10 with a Sept. 62 build date. Will this bolt in to my 62? I do know the front (bell housing end) is the same but I'm not sure about the tail shaft mount.
- LTDUMAIS
Answer: Yes, this should bolt right into your 1962.
